What Is a Hong Kong Ring Size?
Hong Kong ring sizes are widely used within the jewellery industry in Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia. Many Malaysian jewellers use HK sizing when manufacturing or selling rings.
For example:
- HK 15 ≈ US 7 ≈ UK N½ ≈ EU 54
- HK 18 ≈ US 8¼ ≈ UK Q ≈ EU 58
- HK 20 ≈ US 9 ≈ UK S½ ≈ EU 60
- HK 25 ≈ US 11¼ ≈ UK W½ ≈ EU 65
The HK number is used to identify the ring size, while the physical measurements—especially the inner diameter and circumference—help confirm the correct fit.
US Ring Size vs UK Ring Size vs European Ring Size
Different countries use different ring sizing systems.
US Ring Sizes
The United States primarily uses a numerical system such as US 5, US 6, US 7, US 8 and US 9. Half sizes are also commonly available.
For example, a US 7 ring has an inner diameter of approximately 17.3 mm and an inner circumference of approximately 54.4 mm. It corresponds approximately to UK N½ and EU 54.
UK Ring Sizes
The United Kingdom uses letters to identify ring sizes, such as J, K, L, M, N, O, P and Q. Half sizes are also commonly used.
For example:
US 7 = UK N½ = EU 54
European Ring Sizes
European ring sizes are generally based on the inside circumference of the ring measured in millimetres.
For example:
EU 54 means approximately 54 mm of inside circumference.
This makes the European system particularly useful if you have measured the circumference of your finger directly.
How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home
If you do not know your ring size, you can measure it at home using a ring that already fits or by measuring around your finger.
Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring
Take a ring that fits comfortably on the finger where you want to wear your new ring.
- Place the ring on a flat surface.
- Measure the inside diameter from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge.
- Measure in millimetres.
- Compare your measurement with the ring size chart above.
- Select the closest matching ring size.
Make sure you measure the inside of the ring rather than the outside.
Method 2: Measure Your Finger
You can also measure your finger using a thin strip of paper or a piece of non-stretch string.
- Wrap the strip comfortably around the base of your finger.
- Mark the point where the paper meets.
- Lay the paper flat.
- Measure the length in millimetres.
- Use the circumference measurement to find your ring size.
Do not wrap the paper too tightly because this can result in ordering a ring that is too small.
Important Ring Sizing Tips
Your fingers can change slightly in size during the day because of temperature, activity and other factors. For a more reliable measurement, measure your finger when it is at a comfortable, normal temperature.
If your measurement falls between two sizes, choosing the slightly larger size is generally more comfortable, particularly for wider rings or rings that need to pass over a larger knuckle.
The width and design of a ring can also affect how it feels on your finger. A wide wedding band, for example, may feel tighter than a thin ring of the same nominal size. For valuable diamond jewellery, we recommend confirming your size with a professional jeweller whenever possible.

US 6 → approximately HK 13–14 → EU 52–53
US 7 → approximately HK 15 → EU 54
