The name \u201caquamarine\u201d comes from the Latin for \u201cocean\u201d and \u201cwater\u201d, referring to its blue color. It\u2019s the gem for the star sign of Pisces. In ancient times, aquamarine was said to calm waves and the Birthstone of March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the late 80\u2019s, miners in the Pedra Azul gem mine in Brazil found an enormous aquamarine crystal. A gem sculptor called Bernd Munsteiner bought it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He studied the enormous crystal for six months and then faceted it into a magnificent 10,363-carat obelisk. Named the \u201cDom Pedro\u201d aquamarine, it\u2019s now on display at the Smithsonian National Gem Collection Gallery in Washington DC, USA. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
